Well-Klean© Pre-blend Descaler
Well-Klean© Pre-blend Descaler is an organically inhibited, catalyzed acid blend with dispersion, sequestration and chelation agents, NSF/ANSI/CAN 60 listed as a well rehabilitation aid (off-line use, flushed before return to service). It dissolves calcium carbonate and calcium sulfate scale, iron and manganese oxides, silicate scale and bio-mineral composites on screens, in the gravel pack and in the near-well formation.
Used in the Well-Klean© water well rehabilitation program · Applied by authorized dealers under a well-specific protocol · NSF/ANSI/CAN 60 listed · Danger: corrosive (HCl-based), see SDS and label
WHAT IS WELL-KLEAN© DESCALER?
Inhibited, catalyzed and deep, where standard acid is fast, corrosive and shallow.
Standard hydrochloric acid reacts at the surface and is spent before it reaches the deposits that matter; it is also corrosive to the casing it is meant to help. Descaler is catalyzed so it keeps working through the deposit, and inhibited to limit attack on steel, stainless and PVC during multi-day soaks at prescribed rates (see the label: neutralize and passivate after descaling).
Mineral scale dissolves in a 12-hour soak; oxide metals in a 72-hour soak. The result is measured in the pumping test: specific capacity recovers, operating costs drop and the asset life of the well is extended. Effluent is neutralized before disposal.
SCALE DESCALER DISSOLVES
Three kinds of mineral fouling, one chemistry.
WHERE DESCALER FITS
The scale step in the Well-Klean© protocol.
Every Well-Klean© scope of work is built from the well's own data: casing alloy, age, groundwater quality, water level, depth and diameter, perforation type, bacteria risk, pump depth and pumping rate. Descaler is prescribed as the scale-dissolution step, usually after WaterSOLV™ BC has removed the biofilm that shields the scale, and followed by neutralization, flushing and a pumping test.
DATA BEFORE CHEMISTRY
Eight data points shape the Descaler prescription.
HCT collects the well's data and a groundwater sample before any product is recommended: casing alloy, age of the well, groundwater quality, water level, depth and diameter, perforation type, bacteria and biological risk, pump depth and column pipe, and pumping rate. Use rates, soak times and sequence are then prescribed per well.
01
Groundwater quality
Hardness, iron, manganese and silica in the water decide the deposit chemistry and the soak time.
02
Casing and screen
Alloy, age and perforation type decide the inhibitor level and whether Concentrate is added.
03
Downhole video
Video before and after shows the deposit and confirms the slots are open once treatment is complete.
HYDRAULICS
Specific capacity recovers
Flow paths through the screen, gravel pack and formation reopen.
OPERATIONS
Lower operating cost
Less drawdown and less energy per gallon pumped.
ASSET
Extended well life
Rehabilitate instead of replace.
CASE STUDIES
Scale removed, capacity measured.
NEXT STEP
Send HCT the data. We will scope the treatment.
Fill out the well data form and send it with a groundwater sample; HCT returns a preliminary scope built on the well's actual condition. Descaler is sold and applied through authorized Well-Klean© dealers in 5-gallon poly pails (6-pail minimum order; pails can be mixed and matched), 55-gallon poly drums and 265-gallon IBC totes.
