Fungal issues in plants are persistent and hard to overcome because they're often symptoms of many underlying issues of soil health and water quality. Conventional agronomy practices, fungi interacting with accumulated fertilizers, bacteria and lack of soil pore space create septic soil conditions. We have a proven sustainable solution.

"Past 3 or 4 years these pine trees have been getting a lot of blight. you can see it in the tips of the tree. what I've seen since using the product, especially coming into this year, is all that blight's pretty much gone away."

~Mike Molton, Orange Tree Golf, Phoenix, AZ

Key Issues Leading to Fungal Infections:

  • Accumulated Fertilizers: Fertilizers not taken up by plants accumulate in the soil, consuming pore space, hindering infiltration and essential nutritional uptake. Water in soils turn septic. Bacteria waste products proliferate, also encapsulating acid reach to fertilizer and root uptake of available nutrients as well as oxygen. Gram-negative bacteria superseding gram-positive bacteria, and vegetation suffers.

  • Lack of Pore Space & Oxygen: Accumulated fertilizers, bio-films and bio wastes, perpetuate static soils water, and and septic conditions; reducing soil pore space and leading to a lack of oxygen and nutritional uptake.

  • Biofilms: These protective layers encapsulate nutrients (including fertilizers and beneficial elements like zinc, copper, phosphate, nitrogen and iron), making them unavailable to plants and resistant to traditional treatments including acids and lower pH values.

  • Sodium & Chloride Accumulation: Readily soluble in just about any form of water, toxic to vegetation, more soluble than the macro and micro nutrients, which are essential, and capable of lowering the sodium percentage is in a soluble, available form. Chloride harbors sodium, and boron, but it also ties up calcium, magnesian, potassium, zinc and iron.

Signs of Fungal Infections:

Drooping tissue, discoloration, soggy soil (due to bacteria producing water), fishy odor, rotten egg odor, root rot, standing water.

Traditional Treatments (and their limitations):

  • Flushing soils with water (often ineffective).

  • Fungicides (can contain sulfur, which feeds "bad" bacteria; many are ineffective against biofilms and require repeated application).

  • Micro-nutrients (often unavailable due to biofilms).

  • Biologicals (beneficial bacteria - but meagre results in challenging conditions, and expensive).

How WaterSOLV is Different:

WaterSOLV™ aims to treat the source of the problem, and the symptoms, by focusing on holistic soil and water health.

  1. Nutritional Availability:

    • Treat water to make nutrients always available, detoxify sodium and chloride, create healthy water, all on a linear treatment rate to the culprits (hardness, alkalinity), sodium & chloride, and bacteria loading.

    • Additional treatment to begin harvesting the accumulated fertilizers in the soil, into nutrition for the vegetation.

    • Providing sufficient amounts of HCT's proprietary chemistry to detoxify sodium and chloride.

    • Administer ample organic dispersant to overcome the biological waste products.

    • All continuous chemical injection, making beneficial and healthy water, soils and drink, for root zone uptake, while incorporated in the process, the chemistry adding dissolved oxygen into the soils.

  2. Promotes oxygen-rich soil and water through:

    • pH Suppression: Maintains an ideal soil pH (7-8) for nutrient uptake.

    • Ion Exchange/Sequestration: Acidifies nutrients and sequesters salts, making them drinkable for the plant and preventing re-crystallization.

    • Organic Dispersant: Breaks down biofilms, allowing acids to access and dissolve bio-encapsulated macro and micro nutrients.

    • Oxygenation: Introduces dissolved oxygen into the soil.

    • Bacteria Management: Reduces "bad" (gram-negative, anoxic) bacteria and promotes "good" (gram-positive) bacteria.

    • Sodium & Chloride Detoxification: Allows plants to consume excess sodium and chloride without tissue damage.

  3. Root Zone Remediation: Aims to restore pore space and nutrient availability throughout the entire root zone, addressing issues including surface crust and confining layers.

"riding around the property you can't really find a pine tree that's blighted like that. You can look in the neighbors yard and those pines are still blighted and stressed and then 50 yards into our property where its getting our water they look healthy as can be. "

Key Takeaway: WaterSOLV™ addresses fungal issues by creating a healthy soil environment where plants can thrive and uptake necessary nutrients, rather than just combating the fungus itself, which is often a symptom of underlying septic soil conditions.

Commonly Asked Questions:

Q. Does WaterSOLV work on all types of plant fungus?

There are multiple categories of what we may refer to as biological problems:

  1. Fungi

  2. Mold (fungi)

  3. Mildew (fungi)

  4. Yeast (fungi)

  5. Algae

  6. Bryozoan

  7. Black Layer (Sulfate Reducing Bacteria)

  8. Fairy Ring

  9. Root Rot

  10. Iron Bacteria (slime)

  11. Pythium

And a host of other names, problems, including;

  1. Coliforms

  2. E. coli

  3. Dollar Spot

  4. Canker

  5. Blight

  6. Downey Mildew

  7. Protozoa

  8. Algae

  9. . . .

Q. Does WaterSOLV work on all types of plant fungus?

  1. We can’t make that assumption. What we can say is that we’ve solved an enormous number of problems across the country in just about all forms of agronomy, inclusive of hydroponics, to extremely calcareous soils, and septic soils and waters, also including reclaim water.

  2. Even more, restoring vegetation health, inclusive of crop production plagued by mold and mildew, soils and vegetation plagued with disease / root rot / fairy ring, trees suffering from blight, vegetation overall suffering from anoxic, anaerobic conditions / sodium and chloride, within in the soil and the plant.

Q. Why are fungal issues in agriculture and ornamentals so hard to get rid of?

  1. We have to address the total picture! Plants are what they drink. They need a full range multi-vitamins with every drink.

  2. We believe adding nutrition is part of what the plant needs, the macro but also the micro (Zn/Cu and also oxygen). Conventionally, when fertilizer is added, on top of excess fertilizer (due to available nutrition deficiencies), while we usually see a response, we think doing it again is the solution. In actuality, the fertilizers not taken up by the plant, accumulating in the soil, is not only compromising the soils operability (pore space), but it is feeding the gram-negative bacteria, which overcomes the gram-positive bacteria, and the soils literally become biologically compromised, and the waters within the soil turn septic.

  3. Septic is such an important condition to understand, because it inevitably leads to death, especially because it is a foundational basis for disease and then pest pressure. Definition of septic: infected with microorganisms, especially harmful bacteria.

Q. Have there been any recent innovations in the treatment of fungal issues?

  1. Understanding soil health has to be maintained in correlation to a plant’s nutritional availability and uptake.

  2. Plants need fertilizer, but fertilizer is not nutrition, unless the plant drinks it.

  3. Plants not only need (and temporarily responds to nitrogen) to be able to uptake, they need all the micro and macro nutrients, of which are highly insoluble for the plant to drink. In turn, pure water with oxygen plus oxygenated N to NO3-N (rain onto soils), creates a fantastic response, until that drink is consumed. The next available salt is sodium, hance the crash after a rain. All the while, the complexed, encapsulated essential nutrients remain locked up in the soil, about impervious to acid do to the biowastes. So we add more to get the response, make the soils worse, core aerify, top dress, and fight the fight, with a lot of money. time and resources.

  4. There as better, less expensive, easier way, to restore soil health, sustainably, by providing your water, soil and vegetation a nutritional, healthy drink withing the soil.

Treating Fungal Issues at Their Source: An Ounce of Prevention is Worth a Pound of Cure

Bacteria loading, a root cause, can thrive in both oxygenated (aerobic), and septic (anaerobic) conditions. Aerobic feed on iron and manganese, and exude bio-films for protection. Anaerobic produce sulfurous acid and hydrogen sulfide gas (lethal to humans as well). Both bacteria produce water.

Bacteria can double their populations as often as every 15 minutes. Correction of bacteria has to be done, similar to antibiotics; persistent, but also quantitatively. Lots in the beginning, less as the problems are subdued. Treat the septic water at the host level, before it gets to the soil, at the source water, to impact the matter before it transfers into the system and onto/into the soil where there is all the all the nutrients it needs to grow colonies.

Causes of Fungal Plant Infections:

  • Accumulated amount of fertilizer in soils

  • Lack of pore space

  • Lack of infiltration depth of the plants necessary root depth

  • Likely a confining layer, that has become septic

  • Biofilms, encapsulating nutrients, including Zn and Cu (resistant to most acids and unaffected by pH reduction)

  • Anaerobic condition "oxygen deficiency"

Most common treatments of fungal infections:

  • Flushing soils with water

  • Fungicides (zinc based)

  • Micro Nutrients (copper, zinc)

  • Biologicals (beneficial bacteria)

The WaterSOLV™ Program

  1. pH – The proper addition of WaterSOLV™ Curative, suppresses pH between 7 and 8, the ideal range of most nutrients.

  2. Ion Exchange – While this is acidification, the acidified nutrients are “sequestered”, as hydratable, re-hydratable ions, also known as TDS and EC. Once sequestered, the salts are readily as drinkable water and sodium, thereby decreasing the “percentage” of sodium a plant drinks. Sequestered means that once converted, will always remain available nutrition, it will not be subject to re-crystallization. It will never again evaporate to hardness, but is permanently readily available for the plant to drink with water.

  3. Not many people realize, until they see it with their own eyes, that biofilms encapsulate fertilizers, especially the production of nitrate from nitrogen, phosphorus, zinc, copper and iron. Acid does not break down biofilms, so the plant remains deficient until the encapsulated salts can be acidified.  WaterSOLV™ can break down these films, referred to as an organic dispersant, so that the acid can get to the fertilizer to cause the ion exchange.

  4. At the same time, the organic dispersant is placing dissolved oxygen in the soil, while also reducing the anoxic gram-negative bacteria, perpetuates an environment for the reproduction of gram-positive bacteria.

  5. Sodium & Chloride Detoxification – by protonation, the plant can consume excess sodium, without detrimental effects to the plant.

  6. Healthy water, soils and vegetation are less prone to disease and pest pressure.

  7. The volume of nutritional uptake, healthy water, oxygen and lowered toxicity from anoxic water, sodium and chloride, the more growth and less heat, less overall stress, more growth rate, volume and production.

  8. All at a lower cost than what you are spending now.

  9. All with a minimum water use reduction of 15% or more (in almost every case).

  10. WaterSOLV™ Programs are designed to be permanently sustainable, environmentally beneficial, with a much lower carbon footprint..

More Fun Details for the Seasoned Mycologists:

Most people that use fungicides use them every year at specific times of the season. This is called chronic, fighting the same infection, year over year. Hypothetically, it’s likely just mitigating the upper zones, where the fungal masses are deeper in the soil and work their ways up through building colonies that then seasonally present themselves at the surface.

Fungicides in powdered form are usually around 90% sulfur. Sulfur is the food source for Black Layer, technically known as sulfate reducing bacteria and previously mentioned along with its anaerobic properties (consuming oxygen, thieves to create a non-oxygen environment), and its toxic wastes.

Traditional fungicides are simple inorganic compounds like sulfur and copper salts. While cheap, they must be applied repeatedly and are relatively ineffective. Other active ingredients in fungicides include neem oil, rosemary oil, jojoba oil, the bacterium Bacillus subtilis, zinc, and the beneficial fungus Ulocladium oudemansii.

Zinc compounds, such as zinc oxide nanoparticles and zinc chloride, have shown antifungal activity against various fungal species.

Most soils contain enormous amounts of zinc, yet it is rarely available for plant uptake and usually due to bio-films.
