Chlorine Causes Flushing – Non-corrosive Bioremediation

We never realized just how corrosive chlorine is to iron/steel. As we engaged in the business, we often heard of the tremendous amount of flushing following a well acidification and disinfection. We also learned there was a big opportunity to improve well performance and the duration of the well performance by using stronger, more appropriate products for cleaning wells including biocides and descalers, versus descalers and disinfectants.

See our module about Biocides and Disinfectants. Here you can clearly see what impact chlorine has on mild steel at disinfection rates of 200 ppm.

Therefore, during disinfection we prescribe flood method of pH adjusted chlorine to minimize the corrosion and negative by-products thereof during the final disinfection process in a rehabilitation.
